Hello March with quote of "Bring New Life" and background image of yellow daffodils,

MARCH 2024

Attendance was good for our March meeting – over 40 members attended. Another chatty social hour and delicious spuntino served by our Men’s club.  Thank you to Diane Proto for providing a full array of Girl Scout cookies for dessert. Who can say “No” to Girl Scout cookies!

February started off with one of our favorite events – the Polenta Dinner. The Polenta Dinner was chaired by Char Iacobitti and Linda Granko. They assembled a great group of members to set-up and decorate on Monday and another crew to serve the dinner on Tuesday night. It resulted in a deliciously festive, fun evening in a sea of red and white. Our cooks, Jim, Stefano and Gabby, along with our kitchen crew provided another delicious Polenta Dinner. (FYI-When you serve a dinner, if there is food leftover – and what Italian cook makes just enough for one meal – the servers get to take home some of the leftovers. The gravy is always better the next day…it was delicious at my house on Wednesday night, too!) Thanks to all the helpers for providing another fun evening! And thank you to the members who donated the many wonderful raffle prizes.

The presentation of the film by Giovanna Capone, Finding the Italians: A Granddaughter’s Journey, accompanied by a ravioli lunch, was a successful and sold-out event. Profits from this event benefitted our Scholarship Fund. A thank-you to all involved for coordinating this informative, stimulating afternoon especially the Brignone Family. Anyone who missed this may take advantage of a screening on March 26 at The New Parkway Theater in Oakland. See the EVENT RECAP on the last page.

Our Anniversary Dinner is March 16 – we will be celebrating the anniversaries for both the Men’s and Women’s club. The cost is $40 person. See the attached flyer for the details. Members and guests are encouraged to attend this special celebration of our club and our heritage.

The March birthday dinner will be chaired by Arlene Howell. The menu is Corned Beef with all the “fixings”. We’re hoping to have better weather this year so get your groups together and your reservations set. Come join the party!

Barbara Barassi and her daughter Christina Davis will be chairing the August Tea. They will be providing more information in the next month or so to allow everyone to prepare for this event.
